I think that anything that means less typing is a way to go these days, it will help speed up the gaming experience and mix things up a bit, so yeah a bit of this and a bit of that = more fun  :)

I like the thing about levelling up. I am yet to work on the statistics side of things very deeply. So far they are static and only come into play when doing a dice roll at some point in the game.

A way to increase (or decrease) a stat/skill would be a nice thing to have  O0

Also the level ups could add something to the player profile achievements too - I was struggling to think of something to put there, but I hadn't given it much thought yet.

I'm not so keen on the inventory on the screen all the time. In text adventures inventory is not as in the forefront as say an action or strategy game, where you need to know what you are carrying pretty much all the time. The other thing is it would take up valuable screen space, and to keep it simple and working on as many browsers as possible I prefer to keep it on demand only.

However, I'm thinking of extending the hyperlink thing further - I am thinking of adding a quick click bar with things like the inventory in it. That could be text, but I think some icons would look nicer. So going back to your idea, when you need to view your inventory you need only click on an icon. It could be shown as before in text, or perhaps a popup - for the latter there is probably more difficulty with browser support, but I know some things that might work okay.

I'll probably put that under the text input.

I had a few ideas that I thought I would throw out there:

Inventory - collectables - level ups 

It would be good to have the inventory always on screen, like a little box with all your collected things in.

There could be a level up system that increases a skill when the player has collected a certain amount of things.

Okay that's live now, you should see hyperlinks now.

If not clear your cache and do a hard reload - usually CTRL + f5

I've made one of the dice rolls automatic now. To test that go to the convention room and try to search it.

I spoke to a regular player on Discord and they thought that hyperlinks are a good thing. By which I mean you can click some text to perform some action.

A picture is worth a million words, so see the attachment.  Now you can click on the location to go to them or click on the object to examine them. You can still type it out if you prefer.

This makes it better for mobile use too. I will notify when this is made live.

Much thanks to the people who tested my little demo. It seems the engine and general idea is in place.

I've found that it's difficult to write a campaign and write the engine/mechanics at the same time. So I have found an interesting campaign that a guy wrote several years ago for the Call of Cthulhu role playing game and which he released with a creative commons licence. So what I have decided to do is take the adventure from there and develop the game (and probably some aspects of the engine) around it.

So I have the creative direction I need now and can get on with making the game. More will be revealed as time goes on, I have no idea how long this will take me, but I will keep the Larkwood alpha up and running in case anyone else passes by who is interested - and there will probably be things that I need to test so I will try those out on the alpha.

Haha, yeah the cheese I added so I could have edible and inedible things as someone tried to eat the gun  ;D

Glad the sound effect works though with the cue etc - that room is a dead end at the moment, I'm still thinking of how to handle a game, or even if it's needed atm.
